Do I need to deal with Thai customs?

For any parcel heading outside of the EU, you’ll need to fill out a customs form. This tells the Customs Agents in the destination country about the contents of your package so they can process it correctly.

Be careful when sending personal effects to Thailand – tax exemption on these items is allowed only depending on Thai citizenship status. The owner of the effects will need to provide a passport for Customs clearance.

Visit the Thai Customs website for more information – Thai Customs provide a set of procedures to help with the clearance of posted items. It’s also worth noting that Thai Customs can examine almost any item that comes to the country by mail so be sure to send only allowable items.

When you book your delivery with ipostparcels, we will provide you with all the correct customs documentation you need to help your parcel through Thai customs.

HM Revenue & Customs has more information on tax and customs considerations for Thailand.

What items can’t I send to Thailand?

As well as the usual restricted and prohibited items you would expect from any international parcel delivery, there are some additional restrictions on what you can and can’t send to Thailand.

Some of the strictest laws in the world are in place to deal with illicit drugs in Thailand; violators of those laws are subject to a death sentence.

When sending parcels to Thailand, it’s vital to ensure the contents will be accepted into the country; if not your parcel can be refused entry which may result in additional charges, or worse still, it could be destroyed.

You can find more information on general prohibitions and restrictions to Thailand here but some examples of items you can’t send to Thailand include:

Restricted and Prohibited Goods

Illegal and dangerous

Obscene objects/literature/pictures

Fruit and vegetables

Hazardous chemicals

E-cigarettes, inc parts and accessories

Meat and poultry

Narcotics e.g., maijuana, hemp, opium, cocaine, morphine, heroin

Goods with Thai national flag

Please be aware that when sending a gift, parcel or other items to Thailand with ipostparcels, we also have our own prohibited items list which must be observed.

How to package parcels to Thailand

We advise attention given to packaging when sending to Thailand; remember your parcel will be taking quite a long journey through a number of depots with automated sorting machines, where the word ‘fragile’ won’t be read. Be sure to pack your items well and use lightweight cushioning material inside your parcel to help protect the contents from damage. Take a look at our packaging advice here.

We’ll transport parcels up to 25kg in weight, 80x80x80cm max in size. We recommend you use a strong and sturdy outer box when sending your package and don’t overfill it, regardless of the dimensions of your parcel. For further advice, take a look at our handy international packaging guide for tips to get everything there safely.

How safe will my parcel be?

Adhering to restricted and prohibited items lists and general customs regulations, means there shouldn’t be any reason to worry about safety when posting something to Thailand – we’ll take good care of it! But we know you may need some reassurance, so our free online tracking system will help you keep tabs on your parcel throughout its whole journey, from collection to delivery.

In addition to this, we provide £50 free extended cover - and you can choose to add extra cover on more valuable items should you need it -  so relax and let ipostparcels deliver your parcels to Thailand worry-free.

Did you know?

Thailand is home to both the smallest and the largest animal, from the bumblebee bat to the whale shark. And about a tenth of all animal species on the planet come from Thailand and a tenth of all bird species (that’s more birds than Europe and America combined!).
