About Burundi

Burundi is situated in the South East of Africa and is landlocked by Rwanda, Tanzania, and The Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The population of the country is over 10million, with its capital Bujumbura holding just over 330,000.

Interestingly, the geographical area occupied by Burundi is only a little smaller than the American state of Maryland, making it one of the smallest countries in Africa . The highest point of the country is Mount Heha, which although sounds amusing, actually stands at 2,670m high! The majority of Burundi’s landscape is made up of valleys and hills, which is covered by banana plantations and cultivates trees. In 2010, the country was listed the poorest country in the world, according to The Human Development Index. Despite this, the country is blessed with a wealth of coffee and tea plantations, which is a significant contributor to the local economy.
